The Winter Classic to Benefit Shalthis

A few days ago, Shalthis (Stephen Perry) joined the RHL Discord server and received a warm welcome from our community.

According to Rocket League Subreddit user CloudFuel, "Shalthis was one of the very first casters to come into Rocket League, was one of the original community Power Rankers, was one of the first casters to join Rocket League Central (casting several hype early events like the Gfinity Invitational, the first iteration of Rocket Royale, and the RLC Pro League), coordinated/casted the first Rocket League charity event: The Winter Classic, worked with several orgs/groups in the community to help build the esports scene, designed gfx for a some community members, and was just an overall joy to have in the community."

In April of 2016 while on a trip in Arizona, Shalthis suffered a massive stroke at the age of 35. Since then, he's been in the hospital recovering and slowly making progress with speech and physical therapy. His wife has set up a GoFundme campaign to help generate the funds necessary to bring him home, "Because of Steve’s current condition, he requires medical transport in order to come back home," She said.

"I have contacted several places and the cost of travel to bring Steve back home via air ambulance is roughly $25,000. This cost covers the use of a pilot and medical staff to monitor Steve in addition to the use of the medical equipment during the flight and the use of the plane itself, including the cost of the jet fuel required for the trip. Steve would need to take an ambulance to and from the airport, and this cost is included in the above figure. Unfortunately, the insurance company will not cover the cost of the trip, which puts the burden of the cost to bring him back home solely on me.

Due to insurance reasons, I am unable to move Steve until the beginning of 2017 and I would like to have him transferred as soon as I can arrange everything. This move will require quite a bit of communication and paperwork to get everything set up, but I am hoping I can arrange it by mid to late January."

RLXL Winter Classic to Benefit Shalthis

Rocket League XL is a charity organization started by members of the community to collaboratively host charity events for the Rocket League scene. During its first event, the organization raised $10,000 for Extra Life.

Shalthis organized and casted the first Rocket League charity event named: The Winter Classic. He is unable to cast this event so the team is continuing the tradition in his honor this Saturday where all proceeds will be donated to his GoFundme campaign. Details for the event are listed below.

We highly encourage you to tune in and watch the event and if you can, please donate to help Shalthis get home.

Rocket League 1.27 Introduces Speed Boost Bug

Earlier this week, Psyonix released Rocket League 1.27 to fix a number of bugs. These bugs include:

  • An experimental goal-post collision fix has been deployed
  • Removed the “GO!” counter in Custom Training
  • 'Seamless Bot Replacement' in Unranked online matches should now work as originally intended
  • Fixed an issue where players were stuck in the Replay Menu after deleting certain replays
  • Fixed an issue where selecting 'Free Play' forced the Loading Screen
  • Fixed an issue where Emoji entry on Xbox One was not displaying in some cases
  • UI scale setting in options should now save on PlayStation 4
  • Fix for rank label updating for division text and changing colors

In addition to bug fixes, the patch added Utopia Coliseum (Snowy) into the Snow Day Playlist.

While it's a nice change from DFH stadium, a number of Snow Day players who have Dual Graphics card setups have reported terrible performance on the new map. Issues range from rubberbanding to a substantial decrease in Frames Per Second. The solution is to disable SLI mode and only use one Graphics Card. According to the comments in this Reddit thread, Psyonix is aware of the issue and is looking into it.

To avoid disabling SLI between games, Reddit user M4TT145 suggests using NVIDIA Control Panel to configure Rocket League to use one GPU. In the Manage 3D Settings area, select SLI rendering mode and change it from Dual-GPU to Single-GPU.

Boost Speed and Air Roll Bug

While fixing quite a few bugs, Rocket League 1.27 introduced a new bug that deals with boost and air roll speed. It has something to do with waiting in a game lobby for players to connect. Once connected, members of the blue team have 2x Boost strength and the air roll speed is doubled until one team scores a goal. Here's a video that shows the bug in action.

The bug has been reported on the Rocket League Subreddit where Psyonix Devs confirmed they are looking into it. This annoying bug appears in all game modes and is especially annoying in ranked where Blue sometimes has the unfair advantage during kickoff. I've played in ranked matches where the opposing team will score an easy goal by beating me to the ball by at least a car length.

Hopefully, Psyonix will release a hotfix as soon as possible to address this bug which negatively impacts competitive play. Let us know what your gaming experience has been like since the patch was released.

Team Nostradominus made up of @nostraldominus, mystic_man95, DoctorbooomSVK with Nostradominus as team captain, gave Team Badwubs a run for their money. The two teams met in the winners final with Badwubs pulling off the victory. After winning the losers bracket, Nostradominus faced Badwubs in the grand final where Badwubs clinched the title going undefeated.

Special thanks to the fine folks at vVv gaming for organizing this event. Although Smash.gg was tough to figure out at first, after a few matches, it made things a lot easier with little involvement necessary from an admin. To watch the event in its entirety, check out the following video that's four hours in length.
